The board of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) on Monday announced the dismissal of the Lagos State Football Coaches Association (LSFCA) board, led by Tairu Hassan, over alleged gross misconduct and insubordination.
The dismissal was communicated in a statement issued by the Secretary of LSFA, Akeem Rabiu-Okikiopusu, in Lagos.
The football governing body in Lagos State alleged that the LSFCA acted in flagrant abuse of power and demonstrated insubordination.
"LSFA, under the leadership of Gafar Liameed, responded to a memo it received from the LSFCA questioning its authority to collaborate with the National Institute for Sports (NIS) to organize a coaching programme for coaches in Lagos State.
"In a letter dated January 3, 2025, and signed by the LSFCA Chairman, Tairu Hassan, and the Secretary-General, Rasheed Suleiman, the LSFA/NIS coaching course programme was described as divisive, confusing, and an attempt to undermine the rights of the LSFCA," the statement read.
"LSFA, through its Secretary, Okikiopusu, responded to the memo, copying the General Secretary of the NFF, the Secretary of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, and the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission.
"The memo from the LSFCA questioning the LSFA's authority to organize the coaching programme was deemed disrespectful and a blatant disregard for several sections of the 2023 amended LSFA Statutes, which clearly establish the LSFA as the sole regulatory authority for football in Lagos State, under the aegis of the NFF and FIFA," the statement continued.
The statement further added: "Firstly, the purported Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the LSFCA and NIS never existed. Even if such a document were signed, it would have been unequivocally non-binding and unenforceable.
"The LSFA is not obligated to seek the LSFCA's approval for any initiative it undertakes, including coaching programmes. All LSFA subordinates are mandated to align with its vision for football development in Lagos State.
"We view the actions of the LSFCA as an attempt to obstruct LSFA programmes and a violation of the 2023 LSFA Statutes. The LSFCA, under your leadership (Mr. Tairu Hassan, Chairman, and Mr. Rasheed Suleiman, Secretary), has violated Article 3, Subsection 2, which prohibits disloyalty, as has been demonstrated over time toward the LSFA."
Okikiopusu also noted that the LSFCA violated Article II, Subsection C, by failing to pay annual affiliation fees over the years, as specified in the statutes.
"Additionally, the LSFCA breached Article 20 by questioning the statutory rights and duties of the LSFA as specified in the statutes.
"In light of the above breaches of the amended 2023 LSFA Statutes, the LSFCA, under your leadership, is hereby provisionally dismissed as a congress member and as a body, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 14:2.
"Further decisions and ratifications will be made by Congress members at the Extraordinary General Assembly, as specified in the statutes," the statement concluded.
