La Liga Pauses as Over 90 Players Head for International Duty

This week, La Liga pauses for the international break, with over 90 players from various clubs joining their national teams for competitions and friendlies worldwide. Real Sociedad tops the list with 13 players called up for international duty, while FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla FC, and Atlético de Madrid each send eight players to represent their countries. The break sees players participating in qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the Nations League, the U21 European Championships, and a series of friendly matches.

 

The Spanish national team, fresh off their European Championship win, will feature 15 players from La Liga as they aim to secure the top spot in their Nations League group. Meanwhile, another 15 players from the league will represent Spain's U21 team in friendlies against England and Denmark.

 

These call-ups highlight the league's influence on international squads, with prominent names like Vini Jr from Real Madrid, Pedri and Raphinha from FC Barcelona, Julian Álvarez from Atlético de Madrid, Dani Olmo from Barcelona, and Mikel Oyarzabal from Real Sociedad among the top stars selected.

 

During this period, La Liga's leading teams, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Real Sociedad, have to adapt their training schedules with significantly reduced squads due to the high number of international call-ups. Most of these clubs are left with fewer than ten first-team players available, factoring in both call-ups and ongoing injuries, as they prepare for the league's return.

 

The break will conclude with the resumption of La Liga EA Sports on Friday, November 22nd, when teams will aim to regain their form and continue their campaigns. The return of key players from international duty will be crucial as clubs look to hit the ground running in the highly competitive domestic season.
