Kylian Mbappe Set to Join Real Madrid After Leaving PSG as a Free Agent

Posted : 03 June 2024

The most significant transition in world football in recent years has been finalized, as reported by respected journalist Fabrizio Romano. According to the report, Kylian Mbappe has signed with Real Madrid and will be joining the European champions next week. This news comes just a day after Real Madrid secured their 15th Champions League title.

The French superstar will depart Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent after seven seasons, during which he became the club's all-time top scorer with 255 goals. Despite winning six Ligue 1 titles, he was unable to lead PSG to Champions League glory.

Considered by many as the best player in the world today, Mbappe's move to Real Madrid has been a subject of intense speculation over the past two years. He already has a World Cup win under his belt with France in 2018 and was the tournament's top scorer in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final.

At just 25 years old, Mbappe has already scored 46 goals for the French national team, placing him third in the all-time rankings, just 11 goals behind leader Olivier Giroud. He joins Real Madrid after his best season with Paris Saint-Germain, having scored 44 goals in 48 appearances. This season, he played primarily as a central striker, increasing his goal-scoring efficiency.

Mbappe's contract at Real Madrid will be lower than his PSG salary of 50 million euros per season; at Real Madrid, he is expected to earn around 35 million euros per season, including bonuses. He also received a hefty signing bonus of 40 million euros. Mbappe aims to succeed Cristiano Ronaldo and officially become the best player in the world by winning the Ballon d'Or.

His arrival is expected to strengthen Real Madrid's attack, which already features Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham. "If he arrives, he will take us to a completely different level," Bellingham said after Real's Champions League victory. Former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger also acknowledged, "Next season they will add another player who will score 40 goals; maybe we can give them the cup already?"
