At least 22 players from Kwara United Football Club in Ilorin, Kwara State, have been laid off ahead of the next soccer season.
The general manager of the club, Bashir Badawiy, disclosed this information in Ilorin.
Badawiy stated that 23 top stars from the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) have been recruited to strengthen the club ahead of the 2024/25 NPFL season.
He added that high-quality players have agreed to join the team, including Abayomi Samuel from 3SC, Jimi Iteji from Plateau United, and top-class goalkeepers, as well as national team U17, U20, U23, and CHAN Eagles players, including Kazeem Badmus and Adamu Abubakar, along with Ifeanyi Ogba from NPFL champions Rangers International.
He called on the players to eschew indiscipline and align with the club's philosophy, aiming to finish the next season among the top three.
“Our expectation for the 2024/25 NPFL season is to finish in the top three; we don’t want to struggle again. If you check our records from the last two seasons, we were among the top four and even qualified for continental competition,” he said.
Kwara United will participate in the upcoming Valuejet Preseason Tournament, which will be held in Ikenne, Ogun State, from July 24, 2024.
