Kwara United Football Club defeated Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club 2-1 on Saturday to retain the State FA Cup.
The match took place at Pitch A of the Kwara Football Academy in Ilorin.
Two quick goals from Sadeeq Yusuf and Paul Samson in the 11th and 17th minutes silenced ABS FC for the better part of the first half, only for them to regain their rhythm in the second half.
Annafi Babatunde of ABS FC reduced the tally in the 48th minute, raising hopes for the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNL) of lifting the trophy.
Kwara United and Kwara Ladies will represent the state in the Federation Cup competition.
Kwara Ladies United will represent the state in the female version of the national competition, being the only female team registered in the state to participate.
While congratulating Kwara United for retaining the trophy, the General Manager of the club, Bashir Badawiy, said that his team underrated ABS FC because they scored two quick goals. However, he commended the players for winning the trophy again.
He expressed confidence that the team will perform well in the national competition this year, despite anticipated challenges.
"We have the capacity and capability to go far in the competition this time around and rewrite history," Badawiy said. "I want to thank the fans, supporters, and stakeholders for their support for the team."
