Kovac Praises Dortmund’s Comeback but Warns of Tougher Test Against Barcelona

Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac expressed his satisfaction after his team staged a comeback to defeat Lille 2-1 in their Champions League clash on Wednesday. Despite conceding an early goal, Dortmund responded with two second-half strikes to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory.

 

Kovac praised his players for their resilience and dominance, emphasizing their ability to create numerous chances in a high-pressure away match. Speaking to DAZN, he commended their quality and determination, noting that his squad thrives in such intense European encounters.

 

Looking ahead, Kovac acknowledged that Dortmund would face a much sterner test against Barcelona in the quarterfinals. While Lille proved to be a challenging opponent, he admitted that Barcelona, who comfortably advanced past Benfica, would present a greater challenge.

 

 He stressed that his team would need to elevate their performance significantly to compete with the Spanish giants, who possess superior technical ability and tactical awareness.

 

Despite the daunting task, Kovac remained optimistic about Dortmund’s chances, highlighting their strengths in possession and defensive discipline. He emphasized the importance of capitalizing on attacking opportunities while maintaining a solid defensive shape when out of possession.

 

With a squad that boasts pace and skill, he believes Dortmund has the necessary tools to exploit Barcelona’s weaknesses and push for a place in the semifinals.
