Posted : 18 October 2024

The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2024 in the Dominican Republic kicked off with an exhilarating Day Two of matches. Korea DPR showcased their strength with a resounding 4-1 victory over Mexico, while both Brazil and England secured clean sheet wins against Zambia and Kenya, respectively. Additionally, Japan and Poland fought to a hard-fought goalless draw, emphasizing the competitive spirit of the tournament.

In Group C, Korea DPR's Choe Rim-jong emerged as the star player, netting a hat-trick and leading her team to victory. The match began at CFC Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros, where Rim-jong's early goals were complemented by a strike from Choe Il-son. Despite Mexico's Citlalli Reyes pulling one back just before halftime, Korea DPR maintained control and sealed the win with another goal from Rim-jong in the closing minutes.

England faced a challenge in their match against Kenya, a team making their tournament debut. The English side took the lead with a penalty scored by Lola Brown after a handball in the box. A late goal from Lauryn Thompson secured the victory, demonstrating England's resilience. After the match, both coaches acknowledged the learning experiences for their teams, with Kenya expressing hope for improvement in their upcoming fixtures.

In Group D, Japan and Poland played to a scoreless draw, with Polish goalkeeper Julia Wozniak making key saves to keep her team in the game. Despite Japan's late attempts to break the deadlock, they couldn't find the net. Wozniak's performance earned her praise, while Japanese midfielder Noa Fukushima highlighted her team's determination to improve moving forward.

Brazil capped off the day with a narrow 1-0 victory over Zambia. The only goal of the match came from Juju, who converted a cutback from Kalena Bellini. Despite Zambia's strong start and several chances, including a brilliant save by Brazilian goalkeeper Ana Morganti in stoppage time, Brazil held on for the win, placing them atop Group D. Both teams now look ahead to their next matches, eager to build on their performances.
