Kogi United FC Thrashes Ohikwo FC ahead of Nationwide League One Final Playoff

Posted : 19 May 2024

Kogi United FC routed Ohikwo Football Club 12-1 at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium to kick-start preparations for the forthcoming Nationwide League One Final Playoff against Yoca Crocodiles of Kaduna, who emerged winners of the Kaduna NLO Centre last month.

Kogi United FC, who won all four of their matches to top the Kontagora NLO Centre last month, will square up against the Kaduna-based Nationwide League One side for promotion back to the nation's second-tier league, the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Twelve goals in the 90 minutes of the game were enough to dismantle Ohikwo FC, who managed to pull one goal back as consolation in the dying minutes of the game.

Despite all odds, Kogi United FC defeated all teams in Kontagora, including the home team Niger Tornadoes Feeders, to top the center and is set to face the winner of the Kaduna Centre on May 27, 2024, at the Bwari Township Stadium.

The winners of the one-leg encounter will automatically be promoted to the Nigeria National League.

Team Manager of Kogi United, Mallam Tijani Ibrahim, after the Ohikwo FC friendly, stated that the team is now in shape ahead of the trip to Abuja.

"After the playoff in Kontagora, we came back home and gave the boys a well-deserved rest for a few days to regain lost strength, and now we are back to business to prepare for the last lap of the playoff against another good side, Yoca Crocodiles of Kaduna, who emerged as winners of the playoff in Kaduna," said Ibrahim.

"The entire players, technical crew, and backroom staff have all been motivated with their winning bonuses from that stellar performance in Kontagora and many other incentives. Hopefully, the final job will be done in Bwari on May 27, which incidentally happens to be a national holiday, Children's Day."

"The Ohikwo FC friendly is one of many other games lined up for the team by Kogi United FC Management to keep the boys in shape ahead of the crucial game of the Nationwide League One Playoff, billed for the nation's capital against Yoca Crocodiles FC of Kaduna."
