Aside from keeping a clean sheet, Sunshine Stars FC of Akure produced a dominant display that had long eluded the team in many months, dispatching the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders 2-0.
The match played at the Akure Township Stadium saw Kennedy Boboye dictating the pace with his magic hands from the dugout of the Owena Boys.
Boboye, a two-time winner of the league, is considered a genius given his sound tactical acumen in handling NPFL teams. He once again proved his mettle against the visitors, Lobi Stars, making the league leaders look ordinary, especially after playing a vital part in the game with 10 men following John Lazarus receiving a straight red card.
Sunshine Stars FC scored their first goal in the 14th minute through a well-taken penalty kick by Temitope Vincent. John Lazarus received a straight red card for handling the ball in a crucial area leading to the penalty.
Dominant Sunshine Stars increased their tally with a solo effort from Chigozie Iwundu in the 30th minute.
Lobi Stars, however, tried to contain the rampaging Sunshine Stars strikers for the remainder of the 60 minutes.
