Kehinde out of Ferencvaros squad; 18yo Nigerian joins Tottenham

Posted : 04 October 2024

Tosin Kehinde, a former Manchester United academy player, will not participate in Ferencváros' Europa League match against Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday. Many Nigerian fans had hoped to see the Lagos-born midfielder in action against the Premier League side, but he is not in the matchday squad.

Kehinde is ineligible for Ferencváros’ Europa League group stage matches as he was not registered for this phase of the competition. As a result, he will be watching the game from the stands.

Earlier in the season, the 26-year-old made two starts for Ferencváros during the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. Unfortunately, he missed the majority of his first season at the club due to fitness issues, playing only 28 minutes across three matches.

Since recovering from his injuries, Kehinde has been working his way back to full fitness. He recently impressed by providing two assists in a 3-0 win over Puskás AFC in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, earning praise for his performance.

In contrast, Tottenham Hotspur's manager Ange Postecoglou has included Nigerian teenager Damola Ajayi in the squad traveling to Budapest for the match. The 18-year-old forward is considered a rising star within the Tottenham ranks.

Although Ajayi has trained with Tottenham's first team on several occasions, he has yet to make his official debut. He was named in the provisional squad for a Premier League match against Leeds United last season but did not make the final cut.

Ajayi, born in London, signed his first professional contract with Tottenham in January 2024 and will be hoping to gain valuable experience as part of the traveling squad.
