Visiting Akwa United FC remained winless in three straight matches on Thursday as Katsina United FC recorded a lone-goal victory over them in the last league match of 2023, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 16.
The match, played at the Umaru Dikko Stadium, had Chidera Eze scoring from the spot for the home side in the 21st minute after the referee adjudged that Emmanuel Jame of Akwa United blocked the goal-line ball with his hand.
However, it was the Promise Keepers that had their first shot at goal in the 3rd minute as Osoba was pushed to the ground after contesting for an aerial ball.
The resultant free kick was cleared, but Osoba got the ball and dribbled his way through. However, a challenge on him was spotted, and a free kick was awarded. A free kick by Gerome, however, hit the wall.
The Promise Keepers continued with their pressing game as Kufre Ebong won a free kick for his side at the edge of Katsina United's box after he was fouled from behind.
Emmanuel James whipped the ball into the box, but the Katsina United FC goalkeeper claimed it.
The Changi Boys had a chance to double the lead in the 82nd minute but were denied by Efala's brilliance, who made a superb one-handed save to deny the hosts.
Meanwhile, Uche Collins replaced Opamoye Gbenga as the match ended 1-0 in favor of Akwa United FC.
