2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 3: Kano Pillars look ahead for perfect record as rampaging Remo Stars fly to Katsina

Posted : 21 September 2024

Kano Pillars FC will look to maintain their impressive start to the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season as they face Remo Stars in a Match Day 3 showdown at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday, September 22, 2024. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Both teams head into this fixture on solid footing. Kano Pillars FC began the season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Ikorodu City, followed by a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Bayelsa United.

Meanwhile, Remo Stars have recorded back-to-back wins, defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 on the road and securing a narrow 1-0 win at home against Sunshine Stars.

This matchup promises to be thrilling, given both sides’ early-season form and determination to maintain their momentum.

Kano Pillars welcome the return of electric winger Mustapha Salisu, who is available after serving a three-match suspension carried over from last season. Newly signed goalkeeper Charles Tembe is also set to make his debut, having been named in the 20-man squad for the first time this season. Additionally, Ibrahim Sani Halliru returns to the squad after missing the Bayelsa United fixture.

On the other hand, goalkeeper Idreesu Ibrahim and forward Sudais Ali Baba have been left out for tactical reasons, with Tembe and Salisu stepping into their places.

Usman Abdallah, Kano Pillars' Technical Adviser, acknowledged the strength of their opponents, calling it the "game of the week." Abdallah praised Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede for his tactical acumen but expressed confidence that Sai Masu Gida will come out victorious.

"We know it's going to be a tough match, perhaps the match of the week. But we've studied them and know their style of play, and I'm confident we’ll take the three points,” Abdallah remarked. The coach also spoke about Mustapha Salisu’s return to the lineup.

“We missed him in the first two matches, and his energy and hard work are vital to our team. We’re glad to have him back.”

Addressing the team’s temporary home at Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina, Abdallah emphasized that the venue feels like home. “Kano and Katsina are close, and our supporters have been great in Katsina. We’re hopeful we’ll soon be back at the Sani Abacha Stadium once renovations are complete.”
