It was a victory song for one of the oldest club in Nigeria, Kano Pillars FC as the club began it's quest to return to the elite league Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL with a 1-0 win away win against Sokoto United FC.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that the 2022/2023 Nigeria National League (NNL) Match Day 1 fixture played at the Giginya Stadium in Sokoto against home side Sokoto United, had Kano Pillars FC gained upper hand.
Kano Pillars at the 2021/2022 Nigeria Football Premier league (NPFL) faltered and was surprisingly demoted from the elite league due to poor performances which saw them relegated to the NNL.
However, life at the NNL begins for the Kano-based team on a high note after Yusuf Abdullahi's 52 minutes strike ensured a vital away victory for the Kano Pillars.
Coach Evans Ogenyi applauding his Sai Masu Gida boys said it was a good way to start for their return to the NPFL.
"Kano Pillars is an historic side with great followership ,I am proud of my players, they did so well to ensure we win in Sokoto.
``Our resolve was not to leave Sokoto empty, we got a good fight from Sokoto.
``We are going back to prepare better for our next game to be better.
``Pillars must indeed fight hard to win at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano in Match Day 2,'' he said.
The coach added: ``Our next opponent, Kebbi United got the biggest win to lead in group A3 of the Northern Conference.
``They secured a 3-1 defeat over Malumfashi FC away at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
``The Changi Boys of Katsina United even without the presence of their Technical Adviser, Usman Abd'Alah who is on assignment with the Super Eagles ahead of the Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea Bissau on Friday, were guided by Assistant coach,'' he said.
