In another twist of fate, Akwa United humiliated the visiting Kano Pillars 3-0 in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 32 on Sunday.
Kano Pillars, on the road, have now conceded 9 goals away from home, starting from when they conceded 0-5 away to the rampaging Enyimba International FC on Match Day 28.
The Promise Keepers, trying to ward off the agony of relegation, started the game with much intensity. Sani Suleiman received a through pass and dribbled past two defenders before being pushed down inside the box. The referee rightly awarded a penalty to Akwa United FC in the 34th minute.
Akwa United's Ubong Friday, however, beautifully scored to put the Promise Keepers in front. It was his 7th goal of the season.
With more firepower in the second half, Ubong once again scored his brace in the 59th minute with a lovely finish from the edge of the box, sending the ball over the goalkeeper into the back of the net.
The Promise Keepers, however, had to wait until the four minutes of added time to score the third goal. Mubarak Said benefited from a loose ball inside the box to make it 3-0, thus ending the match on a high note.
