2024/2025 NPFL Season: Kano Pillars FC coach, Yaro Yaro, sees positive in continental ticket inspite of defeat

Posted : 23 March 2025

Kano Pillars FC Chief Coach, Ahmed Garba Yaro Yaro, remains optimistic about the club’s chances of securing a continental ticket next season despite their 2-1 defeat to Plateau United in Jos.

The Sai Masu Gida took an early lead but ultimately succumbed to a comeback by the hosts on Matchday 30 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The four-time Nigerian champions broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Jerry Alex, who finished off a well-delivered free kick from club legend Rabiu Ali, marking his second goal of the campaign.

However, Plateau United responded in the 60th minute, capitalizing on a long throw-in from Daniel Itodo, which led to the equalizer.

The home side then snatched the winner through Saka Gafar, who took advantage of a defensive lapse by the Pillars' backline to seal the victory.

Speaking after the match, Coach Yaro Yaro described the defeat as painful, given his team's dominance in possession.

“It was a painful defeat, especially considering how well we controlled the game from start to finish," he said.

"However, with the current fair officiating, I am still confident that we can secure one of the three continental slots by the end of the season.”

Regarding the defensive issues that have plagued the team in recent games, the former Borussia Dortmund forward assured fans that corrective measures would be taken.

“We missed an important player, Rashid, for this game, which forced us to make some late changes.

However, we will work hard to address our defensive concerns and make the necessary adjustments ahead of our upcoming fixtures.”

Kano Pillars FC will now turn their attention to Matchday 31, where they will host Bendel Insurance at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

The team will aim to bounce back and reignite their continental ambitions when the match kicks off at 4:00 PM on Wednesday.
