Abdul Maikaba, the head coach of Kano Pillars, expressed dissatisfaction with the referees overseeing his team's match on day 24 of the NPFL against Rivers United. The Pride of Rivers at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt held the Kano-based team to a 1-1 draw. Maikaba called for the league body to investigate the match and criticized the referees for their biased officiating in his post-match remarks.
He stated, "I salute my boys for giving a good fight this evening, but advice to the league governing body, it is important to scrutinize the actions of all these referees." Maikaba further expressed frustration about the match's outcome, emphasizing the need for fair officiating to encourage emerging teams in Nigeria to represent the country effectively.
His words: “I salute my boys for giving a good fight this evening but an advice to the league governing body, it is important the call the actions of all these referees. “If the league body will have time to go into the video of this game from the beginning to the end, they will know what happened."
“We were supposed to have won the three points but in the end, it was only one point that we got. “I salute them for keeping the Nigeria flag in the continent because if not for that, our slot in the continent would be reduced."
“It is very good for the country but all the same, it is not good to discourage teams that are coming up and want to show themselves and to represent Nigeria also."
“Maybe better teams are in Nigeria trying their best to represent the country but if this kind of officiating is what you will be gaining in Nigeria, I don’t think we will have deserve representatives in the continent.”
