Kane surpasses Rooney to move Spurs into sixth place

Posted : 06 May 2023
Tottenham broke a four-game losing streak with a crucial victory over Crystal Palace, as Harry Kane rose to second place all-time in Premier League goals scored.

To beat former Manchester United and Everton striker Wayne Rooney and achieve 209 goals in the tournament, Kane, 29, skillfully headed in Pedro Porro's cross in the first half's extra period.

Even though Spurs have played three more games than Brighton, who take on Everton on Monday, it was enough to give Ryan Mason's interim management team their first victory and lift them up to sixth position.

Prior to Kane's goal, the home team had the best chance to score when Cristian Romero's near-post header bounced over the crossbar. At the other end, Clement
Lenglet made an outstanding challenge to stop Jeffrey Schlupp from getting closer to the goal.

In the closing quarter of an hour, Sam Johnstone preserved Palace's chances by making a close-range save to stop Son Heung-min after a superb feed from Romero.

However, with Kane poised to clear a loose ball from his own six-yard box, Roy Hodgson's team lost for just the second time in his last seven games as manager, dropping to 12th place.
