Harry Kane played a pivotal role in Bayern Munich's 3-2 comeback victory against Wolfsburg on Sunday, marking a successful Bundesliga debut for new manager Vincent Kompany. Bayern initially took the lead through Jamal Musiala in the 19th minute, but Wolfsburg surged ahead with two quick goals from Lovro Majer early in the second half. Bayern’s defense struggled against Wolfsburg’s relentless attacks, with several errors allowing the hosts to capitalize.
Kane, starting his first match since the Euro 2024 final, made an impact by setting up Bayern's equalizer. After a header from Kane forced Wolfsburg’s Jakub Kaminski into an own goal in the 65th minute, he also provided the assist for Serge Gnabry’s decisive goal in the 82nd minute. Earlier in the game, Kane had contributed to Bayern’s opening goal, assisting Musiala who scored after a well-timed pass from French defender Sacha Boey.
Wolfsburg had a strong start to the second half, with Majer scoring twice to put them ahead. Boey, who had been a hero with the assist for Bayern's opening goal, conceded a penalty shortly after halftime. Majer converted the spot kick and added another goal, giving Wolfsburg a brief advantage before Bayern’s comeback. The Croatian midfielder also hit the post soon after his second goal, keeping the game tense.
Despite their winless streak against Bayern stretching to 21 matches, Wolfsburg were competitive throughout. Later on Sunday, St Pauli will face Heidenheim in the final match of the Bundesliga round.
