Arsenal have confirmed that Jurrien Timber has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee and is set to undergo surgery in the upcoming days.
The 22-year-old had to leave the field during the 50th minute of Arsenal's 2-1 triumph against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Timber, a Netherlands international, was acquired from Ajax for a transfer fee of £34 million just last month.
In an official statement, Arsenal conveyed that Timber will be facing a period of time on the sidelines due to the injury, although they did not provide a specific timeframe. The club emphasized their commitment to Timber's recovery, stating, "Our medical team and everyone at the club will now be focused on Jurrien's rehabilitation program, ensuring his successful recovery and swift return to the field."
Timber had made his full debut for Arsenal during their victory in the Community Shield against Manchester City prior to the season opener with Nottingham Forest. However, his involvement was cut short due to the injury, prompting manager Mikel Arteta to bring on Takehiro Tomiyasu in the second half.
During the previous season, Timber showcased his versatility and skill by making 47 appearances for Ajax across all competitions. This included featuring in all six of Ajax's matches during the Champions League group stage. His contributions played a role in Ajax securing the Eredivisie title in both 2021 and 2022.
