Jurgen Klopp won't assist in identifying successor as Liverpool manager

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he will not play a role in identifying his successor at Anfield after confirming his decision to step down at the end of the season due to a lack of energy.

 

Despite Klopp's successful tenure with Liverpool, including winning the Premier League and Champions League, he emphasized that he will not offer advice on the club's search for a new manager.

 

Sporting director Jorg Schmadtke will also leave post at the end of the January transfer window, leaving the search for a new manager in the hands of CEO Billy Hogan and Fenway Sports Group. The search will be conducted away from the public gaze, with no set timeline for the appointment.

 

Klopp expressed his confidence in the strong structure behind the scenes at Liverpool and stated that the responsibility he held during his 8.5 years at the club was to help build a foundation for future success.

 

While Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is considered a strong contender for the managerial role, Hogan emphasized that the club will take its time to make the right decision. Klopp's decision to step down, made known to the club in November, has been a shock, and Hogan acknowledged the impact and shockwaves within the football community.

 

The Liverpool manager reiterated that his decision to leave is final, ruling out the possibility of a U-turn similar to Sir Alex Ferguson's at Manchester United. Klopp emphasized that he wants to enjoy a "normal life" after stepping down and highlighted the team's potential for the future.

 

He expressed confidence in the team's setup for the future and stated that Liverpool 2.0, as he referred to it, signifies a strong foundation for the next phase, with the hope that the new manager will contribute to a wonderful future for the club.
