Jude Bellingham Reflects on Euro 2024 Aftermath, Changes at Real Madrid

Posted : 27 November 2024

Jude Bellingham recently shared his feelings following England's Euro 2024 final loss, revealing that he felt like "a scapegoat" due to media criticism after the tournament.

The 21-year-old Real Madrid midfielder reflected on the difficult period, admitting that he lost his smile because he felt mistreated despite contributing positively to the team's efforts. However, after strong performances in the Nations League under interim manager Lee Carsley, Bellingham noted that his enthusiasm has returned with the national team.

Bellingham explained that the media coverage following England's Euro 2024 campaign left him feeling unfairly targeted. He mentioned that the criticism, particularly about his media silence, was hurtful, especially when it was reported that he seemed aloof.

Bellingham clarified that he had personal matters to attend to, including journalists contacting his family, which crossed a line for him. Despite these challenges, he chose to focus on his football, and he expressed that he is now in a better place mentally.

At the club level, Bellingham’s role at Real Madrid has evolved since Kylian Mbappé's arrival, with the midfielder now playing a more withdrawn position.

Bellingham spoke about making sacrifices for the team and adapting to his new responsibilities, emphasizing that his commitment remains strong regardless of his role on the field. He also defended Mbappé, who has faced some criticism, asserting that the French forward is adapting well and will improve as he settles into the team.

Looking ahead to Real Madrid's Champions League clash with Liverpool, Bellingham addressed rumors about Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold being a target for Madrid, calling it disrespectful to discuss such matters on the eve of a match.

Additionally, with Vinícius Júnior unavailable due to injury, Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed frustration at suggestions to rest players, reaffirming his experience and authority in team selection.
