Roma coach José Mourinho expressed his expectation of working in Saudi Arabia in the future, following in the footsteps of compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently joined Al Nassr. Mourinho made this statement during an interview with MBC Egypt TV, which is owned by Saudi MBC Group. While he did not specify a timeline, Mourinho confidently stated, "I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there."
Mourinho also mentioned that he had previously turned down a significant offer from Saudi Arabia to remain with Roma for a third season. Despite this, he serves on the board of directors of Mahd Academy, which focuses on talent development in Saudi Arabia. Mourinho emphasized the open doors for him in Saudi Arabia and expressed his interest in experiencing the development in the region.
He noted Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Saudi Arabia, which has attracted a stream of players to the Saudi Pro League, highlighting the competitive landscape not only in domestic leagues but also in the AFC Champions League. Mourinho's successful coaching career includes domestic league titles in Spain, England, and Italy, as well as two Champions League titles.
