On Thursday, it was announced that Jordan Henderson has completed his move from Liverpool to Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq. The England international confirmed his departure from Liverpool after spending 12 years at Anfield.
The 33-year-old will be joining former club teammate Steven Gerrard, who recently became the manager of Al Ettifaq after stints at Rangers and Aston Villa.
Henderson's journey with Liverpool began in 2011 when he joined the club from Sunderland. During his time at Liverpool, he became the club's captain and lifted seven major trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's manager, expressed his admiration for Henderson and mentioned that it was a tough decision for him to leave the club.
Speaking about the farewell, Klopp said, "Hendo was waiting for us to say goodbye properly to the team and coaching staff as well, so that was a really nice gesture—a really nice thing to do. It's sad and absolutely strange because he is the only captain I had here at Liverpool, but I think it is exciting for him as well."
Henderson leaves a significant mark on Liverpool, making 492 appearances and scoring 33 goals during his 12-year tenure with the club. His move to the Saudi League adds him to the list of high-profile players joining the league, with sources indicating that other clubs in the country are considering moves for Liverpool's Fabinho and Thiago.
