Jonas Eidevall Resigns as Arsenal Women's Head Coach

Posted : 15 October 2024

Arsenal's women's head coach, Jonas Eidevall, announced his resignation on Tuesday after three years with the club, following consecutive defeats against Bayern Munich and Chelsea. The decision comes amidst a challenging start to the season, with Arsenal currently sitting sixth in the league and having secured only one victory in four matches. The team faced a heavy 5-2 loss to Bayern in the Champions League last week, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

In light of Eidevall's departure, assistant coach Renee Sledgers will assume interim control of the team, as stated by the Women's Super League club. The leadership change reflects the urgent need for Arsenal to improve their performance and regain momentum in the league as they seek to recover from a rocky start.

Arsenal's sporting director, Edu Gaspar, expressed gratitude for Eidevall's dedication and contributions during his tenure, highlighting the trophies and memorable moments he brought to the club. Eidevall, 41, celebrated notable success, including two Women's League Cup titles, leaving a lasting impact on the team and its supporters. Clare Wheatley, the director of women's football, acknowledged the coach's achievements, noting the trophies won and the unforgettable experiences shared on the pitch.
