Joe Cole suggests Pochettino brings stability to Premier League, discusses Mason Mount's contract situation

Posted : 21 July 2023
Joe Cole expressed his belief in Mauricio Pochettino's appointment as the new Chelsea manager and emphasized the importance of allowing him to focus on his job. Pochettino, on a two-year deal with the option for a third, becomes Chelsea's sixth permanent manager in five years, succeeding Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, with Frank Lampard having served as interim head coach.

After a challenging 2022/23 season that saw Chelsea finish 12th in the league, Cole sees Pochettino as the ideal candidate to restore stability to the club. He praised the coach for his ability to work with young players and create dynamic and energetic teams.

Despite some reservations from Chelsea fans about Pochettino's previous association with a rival club, Cole believes he will bring significant benefits to Chelsea.

However, Cole stressed the need to give Pochettino the space to implement his plans and recruit players that fit his vision for the team. Chelsea is currently undergoing a squad overhaul, with several players, including Kai Havertz, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Mason Mount, leaving the club in recent months.

Speaking about Mount's departure, Cole acknowledged the impact it would have on and off the pitch. He highlighted Mount's leadership qualities and his significance as a product of the Chelsea academy. Mount's departure leaves a void in the dressing room that will need to be filled, both in terms of his abilities as a player and his influence as a leader.

As Chelsea prepares for the new Premier League season, with matches against Liverpool and West Ham among their early fixtures, the focus is on integrating new players and stepping up to fill the void left by departing stars like Mason Mount.
