Joe Cole Disagrees with Rio Ferdinand's Claim That Frank Lampard "Won't Get Chelsea Job" If He Wins the Champions League

Even if his team wins the Champions League this year, according to Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard won't be appointed Chelsea's permanent head coach.
Following the retirement of Graham Potter, Lampard was appointed Chelsea's interim manager last week. He has so far presided over two matches: a 1-0 loss to Wolves in the Premier League last Saturday and a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.
After serving as manager for 18 months, Lampard was fired by Roman Abramovich in January 2021. He was succeeded by Thomas Tuchel, who guided Chelsea to the Champions League championship the same year until being fired in September.
Even if Lampard leads Chelsea to European success, Ferdinand cannot see Lampard staying in that position for Chelsea's next campaign.
"Speaking to Frank and knowing him like I do, this is where he wants to be," the BT Sport pundit said ahead of Chelsea's Champions League quarter-final first-leg defeat to Real Madrid.
"He wants to be managing and in the dugout dictating things from there. He was obviously a great player but he'll want to replicate that as a manager.
"He's got a great opportunity now with what can happen these next games [against Real Madrid] and the end of the season.
"He can either come back and stand with us because he hasn't done well enough, or he bounces into another job because he's done so well at Chelsea. It's a fantastic opportunity for him."
On Tuesday, April 18, the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal between Chelsea and Real Madrid is held at Stamford Bridge.
