One of the greatest professional footballer of all time, Jim Brown, has passed away. He was 87.
Friday afternoon, Brown's wife, Monique, posted on Instagram to share the news of his passing. In their Los Angeles home, she said that Brown "died peacefully" on Thursday night.
"To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star," the post stated.
"To our family he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken..."
For the anniversaries of the NFL and College Football in 2020, Brown was chosen for both teams' 100 all-time teams and was recognised as the best player in college football history on the 150-player list. In 2002, the Sporting News ranked him the best football player of all time.
In 58 of his 118 regular-season games, he rushed for at least 100 yards without breaking a beat. In seven seasons, he ran for more than 1,000 yards, including 1,527 yards in one 12-game season and 1,863 yards in one with 14 games.
Brown contributed to the Civil Rights Movement by empowering the Black community.
