Japan advanced to the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup with a convincing victory over Norway. The 2011 champions started strongly, with Norway's Ingrid Engen scoring an own goal from Hinata Miyazawa's cross.
Norway quickly equalized through Guro Reiten's header, but Risa Shimizu's deflected strike restored Japan's lead. Hinata Miyazawa's goal secured a 3-1 win for Japan and kept her as the tournament's leading scorer.
Japan's performance throughout the tournament has been impressive, with flawless group stage results, including a 4-0 win against Spain. They displayed their ability to win with counter-attacking football despite having less possession.
Norway, on the other hand, struggled in the tournament and faced difficulties without star forward Ada Hegerberg, who was recovering from an injury. She made a late appearance in the match, but it did not change the outcome. Japan's solid defense and Yamashita's incredible saves limited Norway's chances.
Japan will now face either defending champions the United States or Sweden in the quarter-finals. They are determined to win their first Women's World Cup title in 12 years and have shown their ability to perform consistently throughout the tournament.
