Jamie Gittens scored twice to lead Borussia Dortmund to a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga opener on Saturday. The match appeared headed for a goalless draw until Gittens, who had recently changed his name from Bynoe-Gittens, broke the deadlock with a stunning strike off the crossbar after cutting in from the left flank. Gittens had only been on the field for 14 minutes before making the decisive impact.

 

In the dying moments of the game, with Frankfurt pressing for an equalizer, Gittens sealed the win with a remarkable solo effort. Collecting the ball in his own half, he surged up the pitch and finished confidently to secure Dortmund’s victory. His performance highlighted his crucial role in the team and provided a memorable start to the season.

 

The win marked a successful Bundesliga debut for Dortmund’s new coach Nuri Sahin, who took over from Edin Terzic despite Terzic leading the team to last year’s Champions League final. Sahin, a former Dortmund player with experience at Liverpool and Real Madrid, witnessed his team extend their record to ten consecutive opening-round victories.
