Newcastle United left-back Jamal Lewis has secured a loan move to Brazilian club Sao Paulo until the end of June 2025, with the possibility of making the transfer permanent. This deal marks a significant milestone as Lewis, a 26-year-old Northern Ireland international, becomes the first British player to join Sao Paulo.
Lewis, who has represented Northern Ireland 36 times, joined Newcastle from Norwich City in 2020 and made 36 appearances for the Premier League side. His move to Sao Paulo is seen as an exciting new chapter in his career.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Lewis stated, "When I heard about this opportunity, I told my manager straight away that I'd like to come to Brazil." He added, "It's an honor to play for a giant like Sao Paulo and be the first British player in the club's history... It’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I’m looking forward to meeting the fans and contributing to the team."
Sao Paulo fans will be eager to see how Lewis adapts to Brazilian football and contributes to their squad as they look to make the most of his talents and experience.
