Jadon Sancho's future at Manchester United in doubt amidst teammates' discontent

Posted : 08 September 2023
Jadon Sancho is facing a challenge to rebuild trust with his Manchester United teammates and manager Erik ten Hag after his recent outburst following his exclusion from the squad for the Arsenal defeat, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Sancho, 23, responded strongly on social media to Ten Hag's post-match comments about his omission, rejecting claims of unsatisfactory training performances and stating that he had been a "scapegoat for a long time."

However, sources have indicated that there is little sympathy for Sancho among his United peers, with one source stating, "The players have had enough of him."

Sancho's training and matchday performances, along with his overall behavior within the club, have led to his marginalization within the squad. Ten Hag and his coaching staff have reportedly grown frustrated with the player.

Despite Sancho's swift response to Ten Hag's comments, the United manager has not felt the need to backtrack or clarify his remarks.

Ten Hag has previously criticized Cristiano Ronaldo's behavior on two occasions before the forward's departure last November and publicly confirmed that Marcus Rashford was dropped for missing a team meeting last season. The players reportedly respect Ten Hag's consistent approach, regardless of a player's status, and view Sancho's reaction unfavorably.

Sources have revealed that Sancho and Ten Hag are scheduled for discussions ahead of United's game against Brighton on September 16 to determine the forward's future.

United had preliminary talks with Al Ettifaq FC, managed by Steven Gerrard, about a potential loan move, but no deal was close to completion before the Saudi Pro League transfer window closed.

This situation leaves Ten Hag with a decision to make regarding Sancho's inclusion in the squad for the first half of the season.

Since joining United in the summer of 2021 on a five-year contract, Sancho has made 82 first-team appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. In his final season at Borussia Dortmund, he scored 16 goals and provided 20 assists in 38 games across all competitions.
