Italian pundit stresses Napoli's need to retain Osimhen

Posted : 14 July 2023
Renowned Italian pundit Enrico Fedele has expressed his strong belief that Napoli should retain Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, emphasizing that he can play a pivotal role in helping the team defend their Serie A title in the upcoming season.

Napoli secured their first Scudetto in 33 years last season, and Osimhen played a crucial part in their success. The 24-year-old forward displayed his goal-scoring prowess by netting 26 goals in the Serie A, contributing significantly to Napoli's triumph.

Notably, Osimhen also clinched the prestigious Capocannoniere award as the league's top scorer, becoming the first African player to achieve this feat.

His exceptional performances have attracted interest from several top clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

However, Napoli is determined to hold on to Osimhen and extend his contract. Although his current deal runs until 2025, the club aims to prolong it until 2027, demonstrating their desire to secure his services for the long term.

Italian pundit Fedele has stressed the importance of retaining Osimhen, as he believes the Nigerian star will greatly contribute to Napoli's chances of retaining their Serie A title.

Fedele stated, "If Napoli can keep Osimhen, he will help them win Serie A because he will continue to make them stronger while other teams have weakened."

While Napoli has not been extremely active in the transfer market this summer, they are on the verge of losing Kim Min-Jae to Bayern Munich and have yet to secure a solid replacement for the departing defender.

Retaining Osimhen would provide a significant boost to their attacking prowess and overall squad strength as they aim to defend their Scudetto crown.
