"It didn't look great" - Leicester boss on Iheanacho's injury

Posted : 26 April 2023
Following Leicester City's 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Wednesday, manager Dean Smith provided an update on the injury status of striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Nigeria national teamer played a crucial role in securing a point for the Foxes at Elland Road, but it came at a cost.

Iheanacho reportedly experienced pain in his groin during the match, which raised concerns for his health.

Despite the discomfort, Iheanacho remained composed and showed his awareness on the pitch.

He even managed to redirect the ball to James Maddison, who set up Jamie Vardy's equalizer in the 80th minute.

However, it was clear that Iheanacho was in pain during the build-up to the goal and he was immediately replaced by Dennis Praet.

After the match, Smith confirmed that the extent of Iheanacho's injury was still unknown and that the team was waiting on scan results for a proper diagnosis.

"It's too soon. He felt his groin and it didn’t look great, so we’ll have to wait until we get a scan on it," Smith said.

Iheanacho's recent form has been impressive, scoring in two of his last three Premier League matches, and has contributed to a total of twelve goal involvements this season.

However, his injury status is a cause for concern for Leicester City fans.

The Foxes are set to face Alex Iwobi's Everton in a crucial relegation six-pointer at the King Power Stadium on May 1, and it remains to be seen whether Iheanacho will be available for the match.
