Marking an astonishing and impressive move in Israeli football, the realization of Daniel Peretz's transfer to Bayern Munich appears to be imminent. As per the Wednesday morning report by Fabrizio Romano, the agreement for Peretz's move to the German powerhouse is in place, and he is set to transition to the German Empire in the coming days.
The transfer arrangement entails Bayern Munich remitting €5 million to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Peretz is anticipated to sign a five-year contract, valid until 2028, and is scheduled to partake in a match against Slovenian side Celje in the Conference League playoffs. Subsequently, he will undergo medical assessments in Munich. As Bayern Munich, renowned as one of the world's premier and acclaimed teams, sought a replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer, who suffered a leg injury during a skiing accident in December, the Israeli goalkeeper emerged as their choice, holding a German passport.
After his stint as Neuer's stand-in, Jan Sommer opted to depart once it became apparent that he would not retain the senior goalkeeper role upon Neuer's return. Despite exploring various alternatives to sign other experienced goalkeepers, Bayern's efforts bore no fruit. Among the considered names were David de Gea and Yassine Bounou from Sevilla, who notably performed well for Morocco in the World Cup (ultimately signing with Saudi Al-Hilal).
Ultimately, Bayern Munich opted for a goalkeeper with a lower profile, providing an opportunity for the 23-year-old Israeli to join Thomas Tuchel's squad. Initially serving as a backup to Sven Ulrich, Peretz will not immediately inherit Neuer's position as the first-choice goalkeeper, as Neuer is expected to return to the pitch in late October or early November. Peretz is likely to gain playing opportunities in various cup matches, such as the upcoming clash against amateur Freussen Munster in the initial round of the German Cup on September 26.
Daniel Peretz's transition from an Israeli team to one of the world's eminent empires is indeed a remarkable achievement. His outstanding performance against Germany's youth team in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship group stage, which included stopping opponents' forwards and thwarting two penalties, contributed to his recognition as the game's best player. Notably, Peretz excelled throughout the championship, showcasing exceptional saves during the quarter-final penalty shootout against Georgia and displaying a remarkable ability to repel penalties, even managing to secure Israel's place in the junior Euro tournament during the qualifying play-off against Ireland.
Daniel Peretz's football journey began in Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth ranks, subsequently progressing to the senior level in 2019. A loan spell with Beitar Tel Aviv-Bat Yam in the Israeli National League saw him captaining the team at just 19 years old. Following his return to Maccabi Tel Aviv, he demonstrated patience from the sidelines while Daniel Tanenbaum took the spotlight, orchestrating an impressive 13-round clean sheet streak from the start of the season and even breaking Israeli and world records for minutes without conceding.
Peretz's chance to shine arrived unexpectedly when Tanenbaum experienced a back injury coupled with a bout of COVID-19. Consequently, Peretz was thrust into the starting lineup at the commencement of the previous season. This opportunity led to his ascent as one of Israeli football's premier goalkeepers, positioning him as a potential successor to his uncle, Evatt, who previously reached the top leagues in Europe.
