English Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town have taken steps to keep talented Irish-born Nigerian defender Edwin Agbaje at the club by presenting him with a new contract for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
Agbaje, who is capable of playing as a fullback on both the left and right sides of the defence, currently has only nineteen days remaining on his existing contract with Ipswich Town.
The 20-year-old has represented the Republic of Ireland at various youth levels, including U15, U16, and U18, and has been invited to training camps for the U19 national team.
After stints at Shamrock Rovers, Edenderry Town, and Kildare District, Agbaje joined Ipswich Town in 2020 on a scholarship deal before signing his first professional contract with the club in July 2022.
Highly regarded by the coaching staff at Ipswich Town, Agbaje has already made first-team appearances for the club in competitions such as the EFL Trophy and the Emirates FA Cup, despite still being a teenager.
Agbaje's performances in the 2022-2023 season were particularly impressive, leading to his professional debut and earning him the Academy Player of the Year award.
During a loan spell with non-league side Yeovil Town, Agbaje made ten appearances, eight of which were as a starter, showcasing his potential and versatility on the field.
