Inter Milan Targets Top Spot as Serie A Title Race Heats Up with Crucial Juventus Clash

Posted : 13 February 2025

Inter Milan is eyeing the top spot in Serie A as they prepare to face Juventus in Turin on Sunday, just one point behind league leaders Napoli. Inter's 1-0 victory over Fiorentina on Monday brought them closer to Napoli, making the upcoming weeks crucial in the race for the Scudetto. The two teams will meet in Naples in two weeks, but this weekend’s fixtures could play a significant role in deciding the title.

Napoli, who have been struggling with consecutive draws against Roma and Udinese, will face a tough challenge as they travel to fourth-placed Lazio on Saturday.

The recent draws have allowed Inter to close the gap, and Napoli will be without David Neres, who has been ruled out with a thigh injury until early March. With this opportunity, Inter is looking to capitalize on Napoli’s missteps as they aim to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Juventus, who have won three consecutive matches in all competitions, are eager to upset Inter’s title defense. Juve will be keen to derail their rivals' push for the top spot, and their own momentum could make them a tough opponent.

Inter, having had a near-full week's rest following their Champions League qualification, will benefit from the extra recovery time, while Juventus comes into the match following a 2-1 win against PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their play-off.

As for Inter’s squad, Marcus Thuram is expected to return after being substituted early in their match against Fiorentina due to a muscular issue. However, should Thuram be unavailable, coach Simone Inzaghi may face difficulties in attack, as Marko Arnautovic is also dealing with a thigh injury.

Juventus has been relying on Randal Kolo Muani, who has scored five goals in his first three Serie A appearances. Atalanta, sitting five points behind Napoli in third, will also look to close the gap with a win over Cagliari while keeping an eye on their Champions League campaign.
