Injured Beth Mead Maintains She Can Compete in the 2023 World Cup, says "Miracles Do Happen"

Despite suffering a severe knee injury, England player Beth Mead says she may still make it to the 2023 World Cup and adds that "miracles can happen."
In November, Mead was playing for Arsenal in a 3-2 WSL loss to Manchester United when he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury.
Following surgery, she is not anticipated to make a quick comeback for the Gunners and will also be out from England's preparations for games against Brazil and Australia in the Finalissima.
Sarina Wiegman said that she is not now on her mind for the World Cup, so Mead is aware that she is in a race against time to get ready. The competition begins in July.
"Her (Wiegman's) comments were made to keep the pressure off. It’s not given me a solid no, but she hasn’t said yes either. She is preparing for a World Cup without me, but I could still be picked. And miracles do happen," Mead said.
"I’ve certainly not given up. She has not given up on me going either. Not yet. I’ve been given a glimmer of hope. I’m a realistic person. I know it’s going to be extremely hard. But you give me a glimmer of hope and I will take it. It has given me something to work towards.”
However, the 27-year-old has vowed to do all in her power to reach the final roster and is not yet ready to give up.
It was decided at a discussion Mead previously had with Wiegman and the England team doctor that a final decision would be made regarding her participation in the World Cup in May.
