Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo, the immediate past Commissioner for Sports, Youth, and Social Development, who has also been re-nominated and is a Commissioner-Designate, has congratulated the management, technical staff, players, and supporters club of Heartland Queens of Owerri on the club’s qualification for the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super 6 play-off.
Heartland Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Match Day 13 defeated Naija Ratels of Abuja 2-1 at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri to clinch the much-coveted ticket with a game to spare.
Hon. Okoronkwo congratulated the Imo state government led by Governor Hope Uzodimma and Heartland Queens FC on the outstanding achievement of qualifying for the super six tournament for the first time.
"It is with great joy that I celebrate this remarkable accomplishment.
"The performances of the Owerri Landladies have been truly exceptional, but success did not come easily; it came through hard work, dedication, and prayers from all involved at the club with the aim of putting the club at the center stage of football in Nigeria and beyond," Okoronkwo stated.
"I thank our indefatigable governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his immense investment in the team and his passion for women and girl-child empowerment.
"The Coach Obi Ogbala-led team promised him a super six ticket, and they've kept their promise, and I know that our governor will reward them and provide them with more support," he further opined.
Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo urged Heartland Queens not to rest on their laurels as they head to the super six play-off series to compete for the golden trophy.
He then appealed to individuals and corporate entities with goodwill to invest in the club as they will reap the rewards of supporting the Scientific Soccer Queens.
