2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 20: Ikorodu City FC succumbs to Sunshine Stars FC superior goal after seven-goal thriller

It was a match full of goals at the start of the second stanza of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 20, as Sunshine Stars beat the visiting Ikorodu City FC 4-3.  


The game was a thrilling spectacle, with goals pouring in during the highly entertaining encounter. The Owena Whales outscored the visiting Oga Boys, with four goals coming in the first half of the seven-goal thriller played at the Remo Stars FC Stadium, Ikenne.  


Sunshine Stars striker Liman Ahmadu opened the scoring in the 16th minute, setting the stage for an exciting game. Just four minutes later, ace midfielder Promise Awosanmi made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Alao Danlami added the third goal 14 minutes later in the 34th minute, giving Sunshine Stars a commanding lead.  


The Oga Boys rallied back in the 47th minute, with Shola Adelani reducing the deficit before the halftime whistle.  


Adelani struck again in the 65th minute, further narrowing the gap and giving Ikorodu City FC a lifeline.  


However, Danlami restored Sunshine Stars' advantage in the 74th minute with his second goal of the day. Despite the late effort from new signing Emmanuel Solomon, who scored deep into stoppage time in the 93rd minute for the Lagosians, Sunshine Stars held on for the victory.
