Ihenaeriala Village has emerged as the champion of the inaugural Glory Ogbonna men’s football competition held in Abia State.
The tournament, aimed at giving back to society and encouraging the round leather game, took place at Ama-Abuo Central School, Ovungwu, Abia State.
To become the champion, Ihenaeriala Village defeated Amaede Village on penalties, with a score of 7-6 after a goalless draw in regular time.
Speaking at the final event, the convener of the competition, Glory Ogbonna, who was present at the final, lauded the players for an outstanding display.
“I want to thank you all for making the tournament beautiful. I’m impressed with what I saw here today; indeed, talents abound in Isialangwa South Local Government Area.
This is the first of many to come, and in no time, we will have the next big star in the Super Falcons and Super Eagles.”
The winner of the tournament, Ihenaeriala Village, which is also the village of Besiktas defender Ogbonna, went home with the sum of Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira only. The second-place team, Amaede Village, received one hundred and fifty thousand Naira, while the third-placed team received One hundred thousand Naira.
There were also special awards, with Umuapu 11 winning the fair play award, and Opkungwo winning the highest goal scorer award.
Each of these awards came with a sum of Ten thousand Naira from the Super Falcons defender.
