Ighalo stays in Saudi Arabia, extends contract with Al Wehda

Posted : 16 August 2023
Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has chosen to prolong his time in Saudi Arabia's competitive soccer scene. After a remarkable journey that saw him start with Al-Shabab in February 2021 and later switch to Al-Hilal, Ighalo is now set to continue his impressive run with a move to Al Wehda, another club in the oil-rich nation.

Having scored an impressive 52 goals in 71 games for both Al-Shabab and Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, the 34-year-old striker is anticipated to maintain his prowess with Al Wehda. He recently secured a two-year contract with the club after successfully undergoing a medical examination.

Ighalo's football career has been notable, featuring stints at clubs such as Granada in Spain, Udinese in Italy, and Manchester United and Watford in England's Premier League. His reputation as an accomplished international goal scorer adds to Al Wehda's prospects as they look to climb from their relegation zone standing in the previous Saudi Pro League season.

Al Wehda, determined to make strides in the league standings, view Ighalo's signing as a significant step towards achieving their ambitions. His well-recognized eagle celebration upon scoring goals has already endeared him to Saudi fans, making his arrival highly anticipated.

As Saudi Arabia witnesses an influx of European players this season, Ighalo's adaptation to the heightened competition will be a focal point. His presence is set to be a driving force in Al Wehda's pursuit of an improved finish in the Saudi Pro League.
