Posted : 30 October 2023
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, has commended the leadership of the Ibeju-Lekki Football Coaches Council, led by Victor Akinmoyo, for their commitment and readiness to kick off the Ibeju-Lekki Football League.
The much-anticipated Ibeju-Lekki football league will commence on November 4, 2023, across the twelve designated centers.
A total of 16 teams will compete for honors in the next few days, with organizers promising fair officiating for the participating teams.
In his address at the seminar/draws of the Ibeju-Lekki Football League held at the Lakowe Townhall, Rufai said the league would not only promote healthy rivalry among the grassroots clubs in Ibeju-Lekki and its environs but would also bring grassroots footballers into the spotlight.
He urged the players to give their best throughout the league matches and to avoid soccer hooliganism and violence.
"This is a great initiative, and I must commend the organizers for it. This is where we can discover talent, and I believe that the league will produce future players for the country. The players should use this league to showcase their skills and avoid behaviors that can ruin their careers," he said.
The Secretary of the Lagos State Football Coaches Association, Rasheed Sulaiman, expressed satisfaction with the league, stating that the association would support the league and urged the participating teams to adhere to the league's rules.
Some of the coaches, club owners, and other football stakeholders commended the league management committee for the initiative and called on corporate bodies located in Ibeju-Lekki and its environs to support the league with their financial resources.
