"I never wanted to play football professionally" - Asisat Oshoala
Posted : 04 August 2023
Asisat Oshoala, the Super Falcons forward, recently shared that her biggest dream was not to become a professional footballer but to pursue a career as a lawyer.
Despite her remarkable achievements in football, including scoring a goal in the Super Falcons' 3-2 victory over Australia in the 2023 Women's World Cup, she revealed in a conversation with Karen Carney's Leaders Of The Pack podcast that her original ambition was to become a lawyer.
Oshoala, who has been named the African Women's Footballer of the Year five times, admitted that playing football professionally was never part of her initial plans.
Her passion lay in law, driven by her love for research, questioning people, and finding excuses for others, even when they were wrong.
She fondly recalled her inclination to support and defend her friends, even when they made mistakes, which aligns with the empathetic nature often associated with lawyers.
Despite her success in the football world, Oshoala still holds a deep interest in the field of law and cherishes her dream of becoming a lawyer.
“I never wanted to play football professionally. It was never in my plan.
“So I wanted to be a lawyer, for real. That was my dream. I wanted to be a lawyer. You know, I love to make research. I love to question people. I love to make excuses for people. And all of that, you know.
“So even though when you are wrong, I still, kind of like, back my friends up. I kind of like give excuses,” she said.
