"I don't deserve to sit on the bench" - Gift Orban
Posted : 29 April 2023
Gift Orban, the talented striker of KAA Gent, has expressed his deep dissatisfaction with being relegated to the bench during Gent's recent 3-1 victory over KVC Westerlo on Friday.
Orban initially made a blazing impact at Gent, impressively netting 14 goals in just twelve matches.
However, he has struggled to find the back of the net in recent weeks, enduring a five-game goalless streak for the Buffaloes leading up to the clash against KVC Westerlo.
To Orban's dismay, Gent's manager, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, chose to keep him as a substitute for a lengthy 76 minutes, opting instead for Moroccan forward Tarik Tissoudali in a 3-5-2 formation.
It was only after Tissoudali's substitution that Orban finally took to the field and managed to score Gent's third goal, courtesy of a setup from his strike partner, Hugo Cuypers.
Orban's anger and frustration were palpable as he immediately headed towards the dressing room without acknowledging the fans or celebrating with his teammates after the match.
"I still feel in top shape. And it's not because I didn't score in the past games that I didn't help the team, right? I did nothing wrong.
"Honestly? I don't think I deserve to sit on the bench. I am a player who has to grow in a match from the start. That's when I'm at my best," he said.
