Houston Dynamo officially adds U22 Initiative winger, Ibrahim Aliyu, to their team
Posted : 26 April 2023
Houston Dynamo FC has finalized the signing of Nigerian youth international winger Ibrahim Aliyu from Croatian top-flight team NK Lokomotiva before the MLS Primary Transfer Window closed.
The 21-year-old Aliyu is contracted through the 2025 MLS season, with club options for 2026-27.
He boasts an impressive track record of 17 goals and seven assists in 84 matches for NK Lokomotiva and has also participated in the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2019.
"Ibrahim is an exceptionally talented young player who provides a new dynamic option to our attacking squad," remarked General Manager Pat Onstad in a press release.
He further added that Aliyu's capability to play as a wide attacking midfielder or striker made him an ideal fit for the team's offensive strategies.
The signing of Aliyu marks the 16th new signing for the Houston Dynamo FC for the 2023 season, constituting nearly half of the squad under Head Coach Ben Olsen's leadership.
He joins fellow attacking newcomers Amine Bassi (acquired from Ligue 2's Metz) and Iván Franco (loaned from Paraguay's Club Libertad), who have already settled into the Dynamo's new-look front three.
Aliyu is the second U22 Initiative player for Houston, alongside Nelson Quiñones, a winger on loan from Colombian side Once Caldas.
Additionally, DP striker Sebastián Ferreira, the Paraguayan international and 2022 leading scorer, occupies a high-profile roster slot, although he has taken a back seat under Olsen's leadership.
With a record of 4W-3L-1D and 1.63 points per game, Houston Dynamo FC enters Matchday 10 at sixth place in the Western Conference standings, making a strong bid for a playoff spot for the first time since 2017.
The team is optimistic about welcoming Aliyu to the Shell Energy Stadium this season and looks forward to seeing him contribute to the team's progress.
