Plateau Queens' hopes of continuing their winning streak were dashed as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Honey Badgers in the Women’s President Federation Cup Round of 32 match held at the Mafia City Stadium in Nasarawa State.
The game began with both teams displaying their intent to dominate proceedings.
However, it was Honey Badgers who struck first, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to take the lead in the 25th minute.
Plateau Queens fought back valiantly, with Deborah Okoarafor leading the charge with her relentless pace and skill, causing trouble for the Honey Badgers' defense.
Despite their efforts, the Peace Girls couldn't find the breakthrough before halftime.
The second half saw the Queens come out with renewed determination, pressing forward in search of an equalizer.
However, their hopes were dealt a blow when Honey Badgers doubled their lead in the 48th minute, capitalizing on another defensive error.
Plateau Queens refused to concede defeat and continued to push forward, creating several scoring opportunities.
Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Juliet Abwo was fouled in the box. Deborah Okoarafor stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick to give the Peace Girls a lifeline.
Despite their late resurgence, Plateau Queens couldn't find another goal to mount a comeback, and Honey Badgers sealed the victory with a third goal in the dying moments of the game.
The Queens return to Jos as they continue to prepare for the NWFL Championship playoff.
