Perennial winners of the Imo State Federation Cup, Heartland International FC, have once again qualified for the 2025 edition's final after a 2-0 demolition of Dom Daniel in a one-sided semi-final match.
Accordingly, the final of the 2025 Imo State Federation Cup will be held on Sunday, February 23, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Imo State.
Facing the Naze Millionaires of Owerri in the final is Onwubiko Innocent Sports Academy (OISA) FC, Okpala.
A perennial winner of the cup from the days of Spartans to Iwuanyanwu Nationale and now Heartland, the team, which has been the traditional custodian of the state FA Cup for years, hopes history will repeat itself against the newcomers on Sunday.
For OISA, a side that competes in the Nationwide League, the Okpala boys are not only making their first-ever appearance in the FA Cup final but also becoming the first team from that location to reach the last two slots in the State FA Cup.
As expected, the match will have all the excitement of a cup final, with thrilling soccer action on display.
Coming in as underdogs, OISA will use the game to prove their mettle after overcoming other teams to book a final ticket that grants them the opportunity to compete on the national stage.
Meanwhile, Heartland will aim to sustain their dominance of the domestic trophy and prove their worth both within the state and beyond.
To reach the final, Heartland FC crushed Giant Brillars 6-0 in their first game before defeating Amanda FC 3-0 and then Dom Daniel FC 2-0 in the semi-final.
On the other hand, OISA edged past last year’s runners-up, FC Eburuaja, with a 1-0 victory, eliminated Heartland Feeders 1-0, and overcame Capt Marvel FC 3-1.
Chairman of Imo FA, Barr. Ifeanyi Dike, has assured participating teams and stakeholders that the state FA, which is committed to revitalizing football in Imo, has put all necessary arrangements in place for a successful final.
According to Barr. Dike, attractive incentives have been planned for the encounter, as the Imo FA appreciates the contributions of club owners and stakeholders who played a significant role in the success of the 2025 State Federation Cup.
He also stated that the two teams qualifying to represent the state at the national stage will receive full support from the state FA throughout the national preliminaries.
