Heartland Queens dare Dannaz Ladies in 2024 Sheroes Cup

Heartland Queens will kick off their maiden title chase at the annual preseason Sheroes Cup with a clash against topflight team, Dannaz Ladies, on the turf of the FIFA Goal Project inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.


The Sheroes Cup showdown will mark the first time the two premier league teams meet in what is arguably the biggest and most glamorous preseason event in the country.

Both sides were in action on the opening matchday, Monday, November 18, at the FIFA Goal Project ground. The early match saw Remo Stars Ladies edge Ekiti Queens 1-0 in the South West derby, while Bayelsa Queens defeated hosts Naija Ratels 2-1 to round off the day’s fixtures.


The Sheroes Cup offers both sides a rare opportunity to settle the bragging rights they could not resolve during the just-concluded 2023/2024 NWFL Premiership season. Each team had claimed victory on their home ground. In the first leg of the league campaign, the Owerri-based Heartland Queens defeated the Lagos side 2-1, while in the reverse fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) on Lagos Island, Dannaz Ladies triumphed over Heartland Queens with two unanswered goals.


A fierce contest is expected, as both teams will want to start their title ambitions with a resounding victory to improve their chances of progressing to the podium.


This year’s edition of the preseason tournament features ten teams: the hosts Naija Ratels, Bayelsa Queens, Heartland Queens, Dannaz Ladies, and non-league team Nazareth Queens in Group A, and in Group B, Nasarawa Amazons, Remo Stars Ladies, Abia Angels, Ekiti Queens, and promoted side Honey Badgers.
