Heartland FC's technical crew, GM under fire over poor results

Posted : 26 October 2023
Bothered by the dwindling fortune of Heartland FC in the ongoing 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League season, the Imo State Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Social Development, Honourable Emeka Okoronkwo, has directed the technical crew of Heartland FC of Owerri, headed by Christian Obi, and the General Manager, Promise Nwachukwu, to win the next two league games if they do not want their jobs reviewed.

The Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Social Development, Honourable Emeka Okoronkwo read the riot act to the team's coaching crew and the General Manager after a meeting with the club's Management, Technical Crew, and the Supporters Club.

Okoronkwo said the good people of Imo were not happy with the club's poor run of results, which had seen them record three points from the opening four games.

He said that the present state of the club calls for deep concern after the team received all the necessary support from the government through the office of the Honourable Commissioner for Sports.

"The people of Imo State and the fans of our great Club are not happy with the performance of Heartland FC despite receiving all the necessary support from our Sports Loving Governor, Governor Hope Uzodinma.

"Consequently, the Commissioner of Sports, Hon Emeka Okoronkwo, has directed that the technical crew must buckle up with the next two games to keep their job.

"The government has invested so much in Heartland FC, and it is good the investment is reflected with good performance.

"We want to see Heartland FC firing on all cylinders. The club has all the support they asked for, and we want this to manifest in the team's subsequent games.

"The technical crew must win their next two games if they do not want their jobs reviewed," he said.

Honourable Okoronkwo also faulted the actions of some management members and demanded a change immediately.

He said for the management of the team to be more responsive and the team to be back to its best, the management headed by the General Manager, Promise Nwachukwu, would also have its job specifications reviewed if the club fails to win their next two games against Abia Warriors (away) and Rivers United (home).

In a related event, the Management of Heartland has dissociated itself from a fictitious report which claimed that players were held hostage after Match Day 4 game against Katsina United.

"The Supporters Club only protested to the Management concerning the team's poor form and demanded a change.

"In fact, they called for the sack of the Technical Adviser, Coach Christian Obi.

"Traditionally after a game, the Supporters Club will usually dance around the team before they leave the Stadium, but because of the result, they were chanting for the sack of the Coach.

"The Supporters Club did not at any point resort to violence or threats but they simply demanded a change in the fortunes of our darling club," he said.
