Heartland FC appeals for early kick-off for security reason

Heartland FC has appealed to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for an early kick-off for the Match Day 7 fixtures against Rangers International FC in Awka on Sunday.

The Naze Millionaires have appealed for the match to be rescheduled due to security concerns in the southeastern part of Nigeria.

In a letter to the league body, the Naze Millionaires have requested that the weekend game at Awka Township Stadium in Awka be played at 2-4 pm. This would allow the players and officials to return to Owerri on the same day due to movement restrictions in the South East on Mondays.

However, the NPFL has rejected the request, stating that they do not want to alter the arrangements they have made with their Over the Top (OTT) Broadcast partners, Propel Sports, regarding the timing of the game.

Promise Nwachukwu, the General Manager of Heartland FC, expressed dissatisfaction with the NPFL's decision, emphasizing that they have made similar accommodations for visiting teams in the past and questioned why their request was treated differently.

He expected the NPFL to prioritize the safety of their players and officials over other considerations, especially given the unique circumstances in the South East on Mondays.

Nwachukwu stated, "The decision not to grant our request for an early kick-off of the Sunday game with Rangers International FC does not sit well with us at all."

"We wrote to the NPFL with the expectation that we would be heard, and that the league body would consider the safety of our players and officials as paramount over other issues."

"We all know the situation in the South East on Mondays with the sit-at-home. We do not want to jeopardize the lives of our players and officials."

"This is why we requested the game to start earlier than 4 pm, so that we can return to our base without issues at the end of the game."

"We are not asking for anything unreasonable. It is the same thing we have done for other teams that have visited us and requested early games for the same reason. Why should our request be treated differently?"
